  It is when we stumble when we can find the great treasure - the great mercy of God.

  Human weakness transports us to the embrace of God... not achievements, not money, not even glory.

  There are many things in life that cannot survive without commitment and perfection - love and commitment in marriage, celibacy in the priesthood, remission from cancer... Even a 99% faithfulness in marriage (1% adultery), 99% exercise of celibacy (1% fling), or 99% remission from (1% unexcised) cancer leaves a vulnerability to infidelity that corrupts the soul, the body, and all relationships linked to them.  

  With the hunger of God welling in my soul, a soul cannot help but come back to Him again and again that he may bask in His glory, even if only in the glory of His Presence.

  To be a Christian, particularly a Catholic, is permanently needing to kneel in the icon of Christ, He who is the center of his or her life instead of himself or herself through whatever spiritual experience that may be. It is complete dependence on God, His will, and His providence.

Most temptations are self-serving. The only effective way to combat it is to forget the self and focus on God and on following His will.

  The glory of God is on the cross, something the Old Testament scripture cannot fathom without the help of the New Testament scripture.
