Passions are designed to wake up mankind to its enormous strength. Their sometimes blinding strength demand that man need to be stronger in order to tame passions. Should he let his passions rule over him, his life will be wasted in servility to his most basic of instincts. Few mistakes have finality to it. Most of the time, you can shake your head, and then continue making new choices. Just make sure you have done your best in each choice. Greater regrets will hit you otherwise.
Sometimes dealing with challenges like bamboos dealing with a storm is wise. But there are times when you have to meet the storm head on, give all you have even your life to break through, and stay on the difficult course until the storm passes you by. Even among those who said, "It is not my fault; the devil made me do," there is no excuse. Each person has freedom of will, to say "Yes" or "No!" to the Tempter. No action can be made without that ultimate choice to go for a sin or crime or not. Whatever he does, a person is culpable for everything he does, whether or not a struggle to exercise his will precedes the action or not.
Only through suffering, through the Passion, can we advance along the road to sanctity and divine union. There is no other way but the way of the Cross.
With all our minds consumed in the demands of daily life and responsibilities with our family and the communities we serve, we can easily forget that all these things achieve meaning only in Christ Jesus. All of these mean nothing withouth Christ. All of these people and things, including ourselves, are mere passing creations on earth who in time will return to dust where we came from. Only God makes this life meaningful and worth living amidst its triumphs and defeats.

Watching the kindness and honesty of children interacting with fellow children and adults, you cannot fail to appreciate the goodness that God created the world with. Looking at adults cutting corners, and even employ violence, to serve their personal objectives, you will realize the horrific choices people can make in their lives.
